Jackson Pollock was an exponent of the former. He began to pour and drip paint on to unmounted, unprimed canvas on the ground, often stepping into your painting throughout the procedure. He developed completely nonobjective paintings through which the only real sense of illusion lay in drips of paint lying in addition to one another. Willem de Koon
